Students have really been working hard to get back in the swing of things! They have been creating autobiography brochures, writing personal narratives and reading books at their independent levels. Together, we have continued reading The Great Gilly Hopkins by Katherine Paterson. And this week we will add our word study to the literacy mix!
In math students have continued to work through Unit 1. All math pre-assessments are complete and now we will review concepts from last year and work with new strategies as well. We will also review our basic multiplication facts this week and those that need more time with them will continue with that study.
Fourth graders are beginning a study of US geography in social studies. Their goal is to learn where all of the states are while learning interesting facts about each. They will dive into a deeper study of Vermont and will have the opportunity to work with a huge map of Vermont in a few weeks. It covers half of the gymnasium floor!
Fifth graders enjoyed STARBASE this week. They worked in groups to create some type of support to protect an egg. They then began working on their rockets that they will eventually launch! They will return again this Thursday.
All students will be taking some tests on the computer this week. If you would like your learner to use their own headphones please send a pair in. Fifth graders are testing on Tuesday, so they are only needed one day. Fourth graders will need them on Tuesday and Thursday of this week. We do have headphones that can be borrowed by students!
Also, students should return their summer reading logs as soon as possible!
Thank you!
