Last week was a busy one! Students worked with various art materials to create the world Romeo and Juliet lived in, finished up a great tennis unit in PE that culminated in a really fun night at Middlebury Indoor Tennis and tried to break a Guinness World Record by being a part of a really large Sing-Along! The photographs above are from various parts of the week, including the Family Tennis Night on Friday.
4/5 Literacy
In literacy, we have been working hard to understand character. Students have been working to identify traits based on specific evidence in the text. They are even deciding what type of evidence they are finding: Dialogue, Action, Feelings or Thoughts. All book groups will finish their books in class this week. Students should continue reading 20-25 minutes a night. They all have at-home books and book projects that will be due soon! New vocabulary words were introduced and sent home last Monday and students are also typing a narrative.
4th Grade Math
Fourth graders have been multiplying up a storm! Many have strategies to multiply double-digit numbers efficiently. We also began working with division with remainders. Students are determining what to do with the remainder and we will continue with that this week. We also completed the October Calendar grid and found relationships between decimals and money. We will wrap up the unit this week and then will begin Unit 3. I will add the Unit 3 Overview then!
5th Grade Math
Fifth graders have continued their work finding efficient strategies for finding common denominators to add and subtract fractions with different denominators. Students will continue with this important concept while also learning how to find a unit price. We will work with finding the "Better Buy" this week. It wold be great to point this out while shopping. Students could help you find the better buy by reading the price tags at the grocery store! We are working with the total cost, the unit price and the amount being sold.
I am working to add some links to the right side of the page that will lead students to various sites that help support our learning in the classroom. I hope to have it up and ready next week.
Instrument lessons also began on Friday. Students will be expected to practice 10 minutes a night and bring their instruments to school on Fridays.
