Hello,
Students sure did look spiffy on Friday for school photo day! If you forgot to send in your envelope and would still like to order photos you can order online or mail your envelope to the company.
Earlier in the week, we met with the actors from Town Hall Theater again to further unravel Romeo and Juliet. Students created live sculptures to portray character traits and feelings. Then they were assigned common expressions from Romeo and Juliet and worked together to create these live sculptures. They seem to be having a lot of fun and are learning a great deal about Shakespeare and Romeo and Juliet!

4th Grade Math
Students continued to multiply larger numbers. We focused on the ratio table this week. At this time students can multiply double digit numbers with our basic known strategies like doubling. They can also repeatedly add or use the partial product strategy. They can model these strategies using equations, the area model and ratio table. We will continue multiplying larger numbers this week and even look at dividing larger numbers.
5th Grade Math
This week students worked with various models to add fractions with different denominators. We began with the money model and later in the week began using the clock model. We ended the week seeing how it all works on the number line. Students also reviewed some vocabulary: factors and multiples, in order to extend that thinking towards finding common multiples. We will continue adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators for the next few weeks. The group is working very hard and enthusiastically with this new concept. It is really fun to see all of their hard work pay off!
4/5 Literacy
We began our second round of book groups this week. We work with Ms. Foster's group at times throughout the year with our groups. Our focus is on inferring character traits, finding evidence for our inferences and also describing what type of evidence we found. We use our read aloud as a time to notice and practice finding these things together and then students work together or independently with their books to do the same.
We also began another narrative writing piece and will continue to write strong leads and include dialogue punctuated correctly.
Please click on the box below to choose some times you would be able to meet for a conference. Please keep in mind that your learner should also attend! If you are unavailable at these times, please email me some alternatives that are before or after school.
