It was great to get back into the swing of things with the students this week. We began our biogrpahy unit by reading books about various people and responding to a few questions. We will continue this study throughout this montth and next and the unit will end with the Biography Wax Museuem on the afternoon of March 3rd. Guests will be invited that aftenoon to see students in costume, with their posters and memorized speeches. The more the merrier, so if possible keep the afternoon free!
We have been writing opinions as well. Students are using evidence from a nonfiction article as well as from a video to decide whether the United States should keep making the penny or not. We are also working on a bit of poetry each week in hopes of creating books to share with you in late spring.
Both grades have begun new units in math and the links to the overviews of each are here-

After School Tennis Opportunity
Ms. Foster and Jan Giles will be offering an after school opportunity for students in G2-6 from 2:30-3:30 for the next three Wednesdays and one Tuesday. (Jan. 11, Jan. 18, Jan 25, Jan. 31). Students need to return a signed permission form to attend and need to be picked up promptly at 3:30. We will send permission slips home on Monday.
Upcoming Fundraiser: Each year classes create a themed basket to raffle off. The idea is for each student to add one thing to the basket and then raffle tickets will be sold for each basket. Typically the 4th grade does a Summer/Lake themed basket and the 5th grade puts together a Vermont themed basket. If you are unsure about what to purchase for the basket and would rather make a donation, please feel free. The funds raised support the student activity fund which supports bigger trips like Camp Keewaydin and smaller field trips like ice skating and other things. Thank you!
