Hello,
I hope that everyone is enjoying the first taste of spring weather. On Friday, students brought home all of their winter clothes from the classroom. We are hoping we won't need them again! Several pairs of boots and snow pants that nobody claimed, were placed in lost and found. If your child is missing any winter clothes, please check the abundant supply in the lost and found pile!
The Spring Music Program is on Tuesday, April 18 at 6:00 p.m. Students should arrive at school by 5:45 and meet their class in the gym. We will be having all school rehearsals on the mornings of April 11 and 18th, in preparation for the program.
Math
Both grades are currently working in there geometry units. Fifth graders focus on being asa specific as possible when describing polygons; parallel lines, types of angles, types of triangles and quadrilaterals. THere is also a heavy focus on the volume of rectangle prisms. Fourth graders work with area and permitter of rectangles and the attributes of quadrilaterals.
Literacy
We are continuing with our study of national parks. Students have all chosen parks and even have begun to focus their research on one specific aspect of the park. THey will research this, write a report and then create a way to share their new learning with you.
We have also been reading independently, in pairs and in groups. We are working on responding to questions about the text by using evidence.
Science:
Students have been working with a guest from the Otter Audubon during science classes. The focus is on birds!
SBAC Testing (State Testing)
After vacation, students will have the opportunity to practice for the SBAC test on the computer. If your child would like to practice at home , check out the link to the SBAC practice on the side of this blog. Fifth grade will begin on May 2nd and 4th graders will begin testing on May 15th.
Field Trips
Field Trips:
4th Grade-May 5, is the third/fourth grade Shelburne Farm field trip. I will be sending home permission forms next Monday. I would appreciate it if you could return the permission forms before vacation. It would be very helpful to have all of the forms organized before students go on vacation.
4th/5th Grade-May 1, is the 4/5/6 Vermont State House field trip. Students will be leaving in the morning to visit the state house and the Vermont History Museum. A permission slip will go home this week for that as well.
5th Grade-Information is going home about Camp Keewaydin this week as well. There will be permission slips, medical forms and other paperwork sent out closer to the week of the trip; May 15th.
CHORUS-Many students are participating in the chorus groups that will have a few rehearsals in the coming weeks.
The superintendent is visiting Salisbury School at 2:45 on May 5th to talk and listen to Salisbury residents about the possible moving up of 6th graders to the MUMS.
Things are getting very busy here at school. Please feel free to ask me any questions about anything!
I did add some photos two weeks ago, but didn't send the update letting you know. So feel free to scroll down and check out the photos, there are some great ones from the 4th grade Ski Day. (Thanks Nuceder family for supporting that trip!)
Thanks so much for reading!
